Eight to seven-this was the result of the vote that made us part
of the Aleph Zadik Aleph. Under the leadership of Stanley Beiley and Bob Fischer, 17 boys met to start a new "club".
These alephs had their choice of becoming affiliated with the G.M.JCC, Senior Jedea, Habonim or AZA. ONE vote was the
difference between AZA and these other Jewish groups.
In those early months, Hurricane AZA was looked upon by its brother
chapters in Miami area with cynicism and scorn. "Baby Hurricanes" is what they called us four years ago....and now....the
name of Hurricanes is the most respected in the FLORIDA REGION.
In four short years Hurricanes has given to the Order two Godolim
of the South Florida BBYO Council, a Regional Aleph Godol, a District Gizbor and also the first District Five Aleph Godel
from Florida Region....George Lefcoe. Hurricanes has also had chairmen on every level of AZA....Council, District and
International. There is no other chapter in the Florida Region which can boast of such phenominal record of leadership.
this is the 8th administration that Hurricane No. 843 has had.
Aleph Godol Beiley let Hurricanes in its first and most difficult year serving two terms Stanley Dick was Aleph Godol
for our first formal Sweetheart Dance. Joan Barson became our first sweetheart at that affair. Next came Aleph
Godols Bob Fischer and Don Miller. Under the leadership of Fischer, Hurricanes became Florida Region Basketball Champions
in 1953. During this time, Joan Marcus was named second Hurricane Sweetheart. A year later, Aleph Godol Don Miller
announced Robert Smalley to be our third sweetheart. George Lefcoe became the nest Aleph Godol and the only Aleph Godol
ever to be elected unanimously. At the conclusion of his administration, it was announced on the floor of District
Five AZA convention that Hurricane AZA had done more community service work than any other chapter in the region.
Once again proving that Hurricanes is the leader of the Florida Region. This is Hurricanes' Past.
Hurricanes present is being led by Aleph Godol Bob Levitt, new
alephs, new leaders, new ideas.
Our future glitters brightly before us, but the spirit, goals and
ideals of those alephs who first met almost four years ago have not been forgotten. The Hurricanes of today and the
Hurricanes of tomorrow share with those original seventeen alephs the pride and faith in Hurricanes that has made it the great
chapter it is today.
No chapter better exemplifies the tenents of AZA than does Hurricanes
: Brotherly love, Benevolence, Harmony....because those tenents are the basic foundation of our chapter.
"Hurricane AZA No. 843 is a chapter continually growing.
We are a vital factor in ours schools, AZA and the community. Many changes have taken place between February 1953 and
November 1955, bout our ideals are the same......our horizons always brighter leading us to higher planes through greater
vision."
